TOKYO—Baseball sensation Shohei Ohtani has confirmed that he is married.
On Thursday, Ohtani posted on Instagram in Japanese: “The season is approaching, but I would like to announce to everyone that I have gotten married.”
He referred to his new wife as a “Japanese woman” but did not name her. He claimed he’d divulge more in an interview, likely at the Los Angeles Dodgers’ spring training facility.
The 29-year-old Ohtani is Japan’s top celebrity, and there has always been interest in his personal life, which he has kept strictly private. His emphasis and image have always been entirely baseball-related, with no controversies or tabloid stories.
Ohtani was traded from the Los Angeles Angels to the Dodgers in December for a record-breaking $700 million contract over 10 years.

Local television broadcasts on his training in the United States on a regular basis, and his exceptional success in North America has made him the pride of Japan, with the Dodgers serving as Japan’s de facto club.
Ohtani is in Arizona for Major League Baseball camp, with the Dodgers set to open the season in Seoul, South Korea, on March 20-21 against the San Diego Padres.
Ohtani just had surgery on his right elbow and will not pitch this season. He will be used as a designated hitter and may even play in the field.
In his spring training debut this week, he smashed a two-run home run off the Chicago White Sox.
Ohtani has hit 171 home runs, including 44 last season, and has a career batting average of.274. He has a 38-19 record as a pitcher during the last five seasons. He missed the 2019 season due to elbow surgery and has a 3.01 career ERA.
He was named American League Rookie of the Year in 2018 and MVP in 2021 and 2023, and his ability to play both positions has earned him comparisons to Babe Ruth.
