Breaking News: Just In Alabama Crimson Tide Confirm Departure Of Another Top Experienced Player

Another former Crimson Tide safety, Xavier McKinney, is joining the NFC North team.

The Packers have signed McKinney to a four-year, $68 million contract, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The contract was negotiated by McKinney’s Athletes First agent, David Mulugheta. The New York Giants selected 24-year-old McKinney in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

In 49 career games, he amassed 249 tackles throughout his four seasons of play.

Nine interceptions, 27 pass breakups, 1.5 sacks, 1.5 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries were all recorded by McKinney.

The native Georgian recorded a career-high five interceptions in 2021 along with 116 total tackles in 2023.

 

In the 2017 recruiting class, McKinney was a four-star safety who committed to the University of Alabama. In addition to winning a Southeastern Conference Championship ring in 2018, he assisted the Crimson Tide in winning a College Football Playoff National Championship in 2017.

In 2019, McKinney finished first on the Tide’s defense in terms of total tackles (95), with 5.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, five interceptions, five quarterback hurries, four forced fumbles, a blocked and goal, and a pick-six.
